"The Preachers chiefly shall take heed that they teach nothing in their preaching, which they would have the people religiously to observe and believe, but that which is agreeable to the Doctrine of the Old Testament and the New, and that which the Catholick Fathers and Ancient Bishops have gathered out of that Doctrine." A proposed canon of Elizabeth I, 1571

Feast of Saint John the Evangelist

Shed upon your Church, O Lord, the brightness of your light, that we, being illumined by the teaching of your apostle and evangelist John, may so walk in the light of your truth, that at length we may attain to the fullness of eternal life; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

The image is a Carolingian ivory plaque, ca. 800, from Aachen showing St. John holding the incipit to his gospel with an eagle flying above.

Randall,

I found the justification for celebrating the three Feasts following Christmas one day off this year. Look at the rubric for the collect for the First Sunday after Christmas Day (79 BCP, p. 161)
