"The Preachers chiefly shall take heed that they teach nothing in their preaching, which they would have the people religiously to observe and believe, but that which is agreeable to the Doctrine of the Old Testament and the New, and that which the Catholick Fathers and Ancient Bishops have gathered out of that Doctrine." A proposed canon of Elizabeth I, 1571

EDS Newsletter

This must be seen to be believed: Episcopal Divinity School, home of all sorts of silliness, has an on-line version of its newletter posted. Check out pdf file of Page 3 here . There is actually a report by a transgendered, sock puppet mouse! Ms. Chapelle Mouse, that is. Read all of page 3. Amazing!

Instead of worrying about a transgendered mouse, why not think about Howard Thurman's poem? If we were all a little busier actually doing the things Jesus called us to do, we would have a lot less time to worry about the gender/identify of mice and men.

The poem by Howard Thurman is all well and good and certainly things that Christians should be worrying about...but only within the larger context of carrying out the primary mission of the gospel -- spreading the good news of God's transforming love through the atoning sacrifice of Christ and the resurection. Feeding and clothing, etc become mere social work without the call to repentance and the message of forgiveness that Jesus offers to all -- even trangendered mice!
