"The Preachers chiefly shall take heed that they teach nothing in their preaching, which they would have the people religiously to observe and believe, but that which is agreeable to the Doctrine of the Old Testament and the New, and that which the Catholick Fathers and Ancient Bishops have gathered out of that Doctrine." A proposed canon of Elizabeth I, 1571

St. Vincent's Cathedral Church

My father took this fine picture of our cathedral today, featuring the new bells in the campanile. We were able to use the bells to their fullest this Holy Week, including ringing the Angelus before the clergy entered for the Chrism Mass on Tuesday. But the highlight of bell use was on Good Friday, when the largest bell tolled thirty-three times as the altar party existed the sanctuary and nave of the church in what was otherwise silence. It was a very moving experience.
