Russian Orthodoxy again the state religion of Russia?

"The Preachers chiefly shall take heed that they teach nothing in their preaching, which they would have the people religiously to observe and believe, but that which is agreeable to the Doctrine of the Old Testament and the New, and that which the Catholick Fathers and Ancient Bishops have gathered out of that Doctrine." A proposed canon of Elizabeth I, 1571
I am a presbyter in the diocese of Fort Worth, Texas (Anglican Church in North America). I serve as Chaplain at St. Vincent's School and as a canon of St. Vincent's Cathedral Church in Bedford, Texas. In addition to my parish duties and teaching Religion classes in the school I am also the Middle School Social Studies teacher.

You sound so neutral. This is awful! Time to reread City of God.
Indeed, Julian, to the extent this leads to a revival of the caesaropapism that once characterized the Eastern Orthodox world this is a very troubling development. I was especially disturbed to see how fiercely anti-Protestant some of the Russian bishops are.
Are you saying there exists an extent to which it is a good thing?
What we have here is a number of our lovely Western Churches trying to evangelize people who are already Christian. (Certainly morso than many-not all of course-in ECUSA/TEC). How about "working on" the much more numerous Muslims around the world.
Just like we got involved in Bosnia and then later in Kosovo. We are on the side of the Muslims against the Orthodox. We need to, as a "Christian" country, do our best to maintain Chrisendom agains the invaders.
We need to be careful about our intramural fighting between Christians.
