"The Preachers chiefly shall take heed that they teach nothing in their preaching, which they would have the people religiously to observe and believe, but that which is agreeable to the Doctrine of the Old Testament and the New, and that which the Catholick Fathers and Ancient Bishops have gathered out of that Doctrine." A proposed canon of Elizabeth I, 1571

Big News Out of Dar-es-Salaam!!

The Living Church is reporting that the Global South Primates will propose a "Two Province Solution" for the US at the Primates meeting in Tanzania tomorrow. They are apparently confident that a consensus can be reached on this interim proposal. If correct, this is HUGE news, and the best outcome possible before Lambeth 2008. Let us pray for wisdom in Dar-es-Salaam, brothers and sisters. Let us pray hard.

A slightly better outcome would be if TEC finds this an unacceptable infringement on their turf and bolts. Cleaner for all concerned.

Agreed, but that outcome is so unlikely as to be beyond hope. It is possible that TEC may finally wash its hands of the Communion, but that would take time. That is post-Lambeth, post-covenant, I suspect. The solution above is an interim one until that time, which I presume would be in place this year.

As of 2/19/07. Maybe God has spoken. What do you say now? We need your words to guide us in this dark moment.

I am afraid I have no words to offer right now. It is 12:30 AM in Dar es Salaam, and apparently nothing has been finally decided. It remains to be seen if any of the GS primates will holdout for the second province, or if they will all line up behind the liberal consensus that seems to have emerged. May God help them all with wisdom, and us with patience!
