"The Preachers chiefly shall take heed that they teach nothing in their preaching, which they would have the people religiously to observe and believe, but that which is agreeable to the Doctrine of the Old Testament and the New, and that which the Catholick Fathers and Ancient Bishops have gathered out of that Doctrine." A proposed canon of Elizabeth I, 1571

+VGR is Advisor to Obama on Gay Issues

The New York Times today has an informative article on Bishop Gene Robinson and the plans for his upcoming "civil union ceremony" with his same-sex partner. Among the more interesting tidbits in the article is the news that +VGR is something of a regular advisor to Barack Obama these days:

Bishop Robinson said he was surprised at another controversy that arose last year when he endorsed Senator Barack Obama before the New Hampshire primary. Some voters in the state said religious leaders should stay out of politics. Bishop Robinson said he had talked three times with Mr. Obama, of Illinois, and advised him on lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender issues.

The Right Reverend gentleman has consistently claimed that he does not desire the spotlight (witness his recent reaffirmation,"I would love just to be a simple country bishop"), he does seem to have a habit of dabbling in weighty matters on the national and international scene, doesn't he?!

Taking a little swipe there at the end, eh? Nice.
