Ugandan-born Bishop Named Archbishop of York
An African evangelical has been named the new Archbishop of York. According to the BBC, "The Bishop of Birmingham, the Rt Rev John Sentamu, has become the Church of England's first black archbishop. The Ugandan-born cleric takes over as Archbishop of York from Dr David Hope who quit in February to become a parish priest in Ilkley, West Yorkshire. Bishop Sentamu said his appointment to the second-highest post in the Church of England was "an exciting prospect."The BBC's Profile of the Rt Rev John Sentamu is worth having a look at. The full BBC account may be found here.

This certainly gives us hope that grace can allow even lawyers to become holy priests. :-)
Unfortunately, he's not what the Archdiocese of York wanted, in that they asked for a conservative. "Apart from that" he seems alright - he was apparently well-disposed to Forward in Faithers in Birmingham.
One can only hope that he doesn't insist on being called Archbishop for York.
I'm really pleased with the appointment, a real sprirt lead man.
I look forward to hearing God speak through this man, just hope the Anglican church will listern to him!
